World Literature

World Literature is one of the finest and most developed art forms we have nowadays. It is a massive amount of scientific and philosophical values acquired by the mankind for more than 2000 years. World Literature is a considerable layer of culture that unites all historical periods and nations within its boundaries.
We can endlessly speak about the cultural heritage of Middle Ages and Revival of Learning, about the epoch of Great Geographical Discoveries, etc in consideration to their affluence on World Literature. But if we mean European literature, and this is one of our main points, it was certainly ancient Greece and Rome that determined the way of future development for all the European (and rather wider probably) countries.
It goes beyond all questions that the literature has had a great role in the society progress. It always reflected the inner life of this or that nation influencing on the political changes. The literature was never an isolated phenomenon not being closely connected with public life.
So, we've just made up our mind in respect to the dominating role of ancient Greece and Rome in World Literature formation. Both countries turned out to be the cradle of all modern literature. Both countries gave birth to numerous legends, myths, tales and so on. What's more, they initiated creation of all most literary genres, including comedy, tragedy, poem, narrative and so forth. Its heroes were all perfect, god-like creatures being either absolutely positive or negative characters. Undoubtedly, their literature lacked realism, but it was a starting point for all future directions and tendencies that would flourish in Europe a thousand and a half a thousand years later.
In fact, there was also an antique Egyptian, Indian, Chinese, Mesopotamian letters that had an effect on the development and prospects of future global literature. In all these regional letters, there were no worse literary works, including Omar Khayam, Confucius, Lao-tzu and what have you. We cannot discriminate them in any possible way as, for example, China was one of the most developed empires B.C. and was the first to invent paper and powder. These trifle things play a strategic role nowadays.
Nevertheless, we will discuss the development of European literature that takes its origin from ancient Greek and Rome up to that day.
