The Literature of Renaissance

The main hallmark of this period in the development of the World Literature is humanism. The main place in the art is reoccupied (compared with Ancient times) by a human and his struggle for happiness.
The main creators of literary process are Francois Rabelais, William Shakespeare, Giovanni Boccacio and Miguel de Cervantes.
Renaissance originated from Italy that was the first among all European nations embarked on the capitalist course of development.
Giovanni Boccacio creates realistic prose of humanism. His most famous literary work is "Decameron".
In France, the highest peak of masterfulness was reached by Francois Rabelais. His novel "Gargantua and Pantagruel" is composed of five books. Nevertheless, it is one of the best French literary creations that displays the acting order of things.
However, it is Shakespeare that is regarded as the greatest playwright of all times and nations. His oeuvre is the property of the whole mankind. And his creation work is the apogee of the literary epoch of Renaissance.
The time span of his oeuvre may be divided into three periods. The first period occupies bright comedies and historical chronicles, including "Romeo and Juliet".
The second period is devoted to the most breath-taking pieces, such as "Hamlet", "Othello", "Macbeth", "King Lear" and so forth. During he third period he writes comedies one of which is "Gale". Shakespeare's language is extremely expressive. It is full of lively metaphors and allegories. He manages to show life the way it is.
In Spain, it was Miguel de Cervantes who made a perfect mockery of romance (tale of chivalry). His main poem is "Don Quixote". This is a very funny literary masterpiece due to the author's agile mind and natural optimism.
